I thought it would be useful to have some notes here about the scope, goals, definition, audiences, tasks, etc. for the APP to be able to define what we are building. For a template, I recommend working from the documents at usability.gov
Let's add notes from the discussion here:
Define purpose/vision for the app
What is the purpose of the app?
What are the goals of the app?
Define audiences & goals
Who are the users of the app? (Primary and secondary users)
[Guillaume:] Current members of the UIC community (primarily students, but also faculty and staff members)
How would you describe the users? (User characteristics, i.e., age, experience, education, etc.)
[Guillaume:] For the most part (the middle of the "bell curve"), they are in their 20s; they are experienced social media users
Why will they come to the app? (User needs, interests, and goals)
[Guillaume:] The app improves the "UIC experience".
When and where will users access the app? (User environment and context)
[Guillaume:] On campus, mainly during "idle time"
Conduct task analysis and prioritize tasks
What will users do on the app? (User tasks, content, features and functionality)
Which tasks are critical to users’ success on the Web app? (Criticality)
Which tasks are most important to users? (Importance)
Which features of the app will users use the most? (Frequency)
Which features are prone to usability issues? (Vulnerability)
